5 Most Common Make-up Sins

Let's admit it, a lot of us are guilty of one or more of these make-up sins. Fret not! It's not too late to be reformed.

1. Sharing Isn’t Caring.

At least not when make-up is concerned. If you're always borrowing your friends make-up or vice versa, you might want to re-consider after reading on. Coming in contact with shared make – up is the easiest way of spreading germs, bacteria and developing serious infections.  

The highest risk area is your eyes, common viral infections such as conjunctivitis or pinkeye are extremely contagious. If you are stuck in a situation where sharing make – up is inevitable, insist the other person use antibacterial sanitizer to clean brushes first. Pencil sharpeners are also handy to guarantee a bacteria-free fresh tip. 

Now think about this the next time someone offers you to share their make-up.

      2. Applying on the Drive

DON'T DO IT , 

it is a dangerously silly idea and a bad way to get attention. Hitting a bump on the road or being distracted may cause harm not only to you but to drivers around you. 

In 2009, Telegraph.co.uk reported a survey that indicates half a million road crashes are caused by women drivers applying make-up. A shocking viral Youtube video was made prior to the report by popular make-up artist Nikkie in conjuction with Volkswagen. 

Remember , no make up looks good enough with a scratched eyeball!

3. Old and Gone

Your face is not a recycle bin for old mouldy make - up.

Yes we all know make-up can be costly. But keeping them for too long just so you can save buying new ones will do more harm than good. Most make – up have a jar symbol, to indicate the life expectancy ( in months)  of that item. You should also keep track of when you opened the make – up.  Here’s a simple chart to help you :

Throw away your make – up if the colour or consistency changes and starts to smell.  That extra cost of buying a new set is more worthwhile than visiting the doctor after a skin infection from expired make-up.

4. Make-up Laundry

Now you wouldn’t want to be dusting bacteria all over your face, so make sure to clean brushes and applicators regularly. Use hot soapy water or professional cleaners after each use and replace used sponges with new ones. Make sure to get all the soap off after each wash to prevent irritation to skin and eyes.

5. Don’t expose

Keep make – up in containers that are tightly shut and store in cool, dry places. Heat and light can kill preservatives that aid in fighting bacteria while warmth and moisture is a bacteria breeding ground. If you use a hair spray or aerosol spray, do not use it near heat or while smoking as they may catch on fire.
